Job Posting Description:

This position will fulfill a dual role, acting as an EMS Driver and Communications Associate.  The dual role will consist of transporting, in ShandsCair ground ambulances, critically ill patients, flight teams, organ procurement teams, medical support equipment and pharmaceuticals, etc. to and from helipads, airports, helistops, and satellite facilities.  Additionally, this position will coordinate incoming requests for routine and emergency air and ground transport services.  This employee dispatches all flight crews, initiates appropriate action (including alerts) based on protocol, relays pertinent information concerning the transport, and documents all events and notifications.  The coordination effort provides a smooth and efficient response by helicopter, fixed wing aircraft, and/or ground ambulance.

Job Posting Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent.  Florida EMT certificate required.  Completion of an Emergency Vehicle Operators course (NAPD or EVOC), must be insurable by the hospital insurance carrier, and hold any required endorsements for operating emergency vehicles. One year of experience in emergency vehicle operation required, two years preferred.  Also must have some understanding of medical terminology, functional understanding of communications equipment including telephone, radios and recording equipment.  Some knowledge of navigational terms is desired.  Good human relations skills and ability to function calmly in pressure situations is essential.  Must be able to speak and hear clearly without impairment and to handle stress appropriately.  Computer and multi-tasking skills preferred.
